For Episode 006 of The Guest List, I’m lucky to feature LA-based DJ, producer, and graphic designer shaw00p—co-founder of Don’t Go Yet and founder of the coffee brand Cup of Troy. Originally from San Jose, his journey into performance started in the percussion section of his high school band, where he competed at a high level. This opened the door to his love of live performance and his understanding of the pursuit of “the flow state.”
One of his biggest influences is Daft Punk and their album Random Access Memories. “That album unlocked something in me—it was the only album on my iPod in high school for a while.” Drawing further influence from artists like Isaiah Rashad and TDE, Snarky Puppy, and DJ Rashad, shaw00p has carved out a name for himself as a producer, DJ, and event curator. He finds real passion in channeling his emotions into his music and creating lifelong experiences for the people around him.
“I think the most important part of creating is being as authentic as possible with your feelings and skills in the moment.”
