For Mix 079, I'm lucky to feature Charlotte, NC native DJ and Producer BlessThaGawd! I was connected to Bless via Mix 026 guest gl0cksamurai and after hearing his background in the blog era, I knew we spoke the same language. Inspired by both music and his family, BlessThaGawd says that they really both go hand in hand.
"Playing music around the house, in the car or for family gatherings creates a memory and connection to the song that will never fade. My whole background is family & music. "
He also talked about his time growing up in North Carolina and finding ways to make playlists as a kid.
"Growing up, I was fascinated with Hip-Hop/ R&B. I would be glued to the radio recording songs that I liked with the built in tape recorder that was attached to the boombox I had. The songs would come on and I would press the "Play + Record" button and create a playlist of songs to a blank tape at the age of 10. My favorite part about listening to the radio was the 5 o'clock traffic mix, hearing DJ Butterfingaz spin old songs with the new. That blew my mind and drew me closer to the music. It wasn't until my early 20s when I got interested in DJ'ing, the thought of it seemed hard to do at first, but because I loved music so much and heard so many songs over the years, it was easy for me to pick it up and learn."
