Bandlab Announces Distribution Service to Subscribers

BandLab, the part DAW/part social network, announced that there are unveiling a new distribution program to their already substantial user base (60 million registered users). This new distribution option will give those users the ability to submit tracks to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tik Tok; the latter of which making headlines for their work within the creative aspects of their platform.

BandLab has had an interested last couple of months. Back on October 18th, BandLab and UMG partnered to create a “’expansive, industry-first strategic relationship’ involving ‘ethical’ AI.” Now, BandLab is moving towards the distro avenue, but you’ll need to maintain your membership if you’re looking to collect 100% of your royalties. If you were to cancel, that payout would change to an 80-20 split.

Like I’ve been saying, we are in the acquisition era. Company’s are looking at how two programs/applications share “like interests” when it comes to what they do, and this is one of the clearest examples in recent months. BandLab is a popular, widespread program used for music creators and they lack the building blocks to get people’s music from their phones/computers to the world.

This looks like a good decision from both a business standpoint and a consumer standpoint, even from the royalty payout side of things. Yeah, I wish you could keep 100% regardless of your membership, but you can’t win everything, right?
