I’ll Do Anything For A Way Out of my Head -Supernatural

Mac Miller’s death seemed to rock the world. I was at work on break and saw it trending on Twitter, and hell yeah I cried. It was double bad too because I saw an ex-girlfriend’s roommate and her boyfriend, and I knew my ass was going to get grilled in a group chat, but honestly, who cares. Mac really was a North Star for me, and from the lasting impact he’s left on so many people, it looks like my feelings are shared.
Based out of Louisville, KY, Supernatural is an Ethereal Bass producer, with a specialization in sound design that creates a unique brand of synthetic-based soundscapes that resemble organic elements. He, like Endless, was somebody who I found via Twitch, and he was the introduction to this style of bassy, downtempo Electronic music, but those descriptors don’t do justice to the meticulousness Supernatural has when working.
Featuring Mac’s “Come Back To Earth” acapella is oddly appropriate; this track sounds like an alien language. In fact, the closest thing to human resemblance in this song is Mac’s voice, and over the course of three minutes, Supernatural spins a cosmic web of eerie intimacy, dedicated to this North Star. The two percussive elements included, the clap and hi-hats, provide a nice, true organic contrast to those electronic intimate moments. In a strange way too, this song feels oddly tribal. Sort of like a “call to arms” to the people who feel the ethos of what this song, and Mac Miller, stand for in the world.
Life’s really weird and catharsis is a weird feeling, but I think it’s one of those feelings that doesn’t discriminate, and those sort of feelings are where I find an odd sense of solace in the human experience. Everybody can love, hate, be at peace, be at war, etc. Shit’s universal, but it brings me my own peace whenever I start to feel lost in the world, and in the end, it doesn’t make me feel so lonely.
