Have you ever seen, heard, or felt something that was undeniable? That question can go a lot of ways — and it really is open enough to spark whatever implicit bias people might have about, well, anything. The city they live in. The clothes they wear. The life they live. How their work treats them. Life can become a rut, and we forget that this world really is our oyster.
“I’ve been really tryina follow through…”
South Florida rapper AntoneNow released his new single “FOG” today (5/9), a three-minute cinematic hip-hop expression that sounds like Clams Casino produced a track for The Life of Pablo — and the artist was an alt-rock band. If you’re familiar with Antone’s music, this track is more explorative than the straight deadly rap bars we’re used to hearing from him — and it’s a welcome shift.
This track has so much substance in every nook and cranny. The first minute is a kind of creative cauldron — the emotions in the intro swirl through a multitude of sounds and processing until Antone cuts through with: “I’ve been really tryina follow through…”
We go through the same thoughts Antone’s expressing. When do you start cutting people off? When do you press the gas just a little harder? When do we realize that the fog over our lives has consumed us? Do we take the action to change?
I interpreted the title “FOG” as the kind of blanket that sits over life before you start making real, internal changes — the kind that move you toward who you want to become. The line “I wanna see the stars and taste the rain” is a beautiful simile — capturing the full emotional spectrum that comes once you find the peace you’ve been looking for. Almost like something a caterpillar would say before becoming a butterfly.
I first heard Antone back when I was Twitch streaming in 2020 during the pandemic — and it was undeniable. I wouldn’t even say a good thing about Antone back then, because we both knew what it was. Hell, this might be the first time I’ve said something positive publicly. He was probably thirteen or fourteen at the time he sent me music. Now he’s seventeen and in pole position.
Keep your ears, eyes, and wallets open for AntoneNow.
