For Mix 067, I have my longtime friend and collaborator @brasmoove curating this edition of our bi-weekly mix series! From Pretoria, South Africa, Bra Smoove is a DJ, producer, and host of Smoove & Groove on The Grind Radio, as well as co-founder of the weekly event series Kulcha Sundaze.
This mix highlights Kwaito, a genre of music that emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s in post-apartheid South Africa. In Bra Smoove’s eyes, it “is seen as the musical voice of the young generation of South Africa, especially after apartheid ended in the 1990s.”
In everything he does, Bra Smoove has carved out a lane for himself by creating rich soundscapes that move both the heart and body.
