Ice Spice - Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie Of The Year
Whether you like her or not, you can’t deny Ice Spice’s meteoric rise. From Met Gala red carpets, interviews with every publication, a flash mob of dancing Ice Spice look-alikes; The People’s Princess has been everywhere. Since first releasing music in 2021, she’s stayed consistent creating an image for her and her music, and the dam finally broke on August 10 when her viral smash “Munch (Feelin’ U)” debuted, instantly sparking conversation around the then 22 year old rapper. Now, almost a year after her introduction and with it being Hip-Hop’s 50th year anniversary, it’s only right the Bronx native is recognized for the work she’s put in.
Since August 2022, Ice Spice’s music catalog has exploded. Collaborations with her “idol” Nicki Minaj, (“Princess Diana” off Spice’s album, Like?, and “Barbie World” which was featured in one of Hollywood’s biggest movie debuts ever) a feature on Taylor Swift’s song “Karma”, and her collaboration with PinkPantheress for their infectious hit, “Boys A Liar Pt. 2”, which released in February. Spice has had her finger on the pulse of what’s moving where and how to best position not only herself, but her team too, for short and long-term success.
Her music is only a piece of the conversation, clearly understanding that virality is short lived and you need to jump and take advantage of opportunities at advantageous times. This isn’t by accident, this is the fruit of a well-calculated plan in this new age of the music industry, where fandom is at an all time high and access to your favorite artist is getting easier and easier, and yet, she’s remained graceful, speaking heavily about how much gratitude she has for the past couple years, and how it’s only building up her confidence.
I’m a Munchkin thru and thru…
